Path to Happiness

Ever so often I meet people who are lost, in the sense that they do not know what they want in life. (These include people who believe think they are "not really" lost, and people who are happy with status quo but without a goal in life)

I was going to write about how to find yourself, but I think the picture is the fundamental search for happiness.

Uncertainty of the answer for "Are you happy?" is a sign of lost. (A straight "No" will be a topic for another day!)

Following Anthony Robbins' work, I believe that happiness comes from two important aspects: the growth of the self, and contribution to others.

Growth of the self gives one something to aim for, and the achievement of a mastery indicates a progress of some kind in his/her world.

Contribution to others brings about fulfillment, and the reciprocity of gratitude, a scientificlly a proven key ingredient to happiness.

Happiness doesn't seem too hard to achieve now, is it? Because the definition of these two aspect allows the inclusion of different meanings. Both mastery of an academic field and mastery of playing the guitar contributes to the growth of the self. Giving oneself to a cause and giving oneself to the family are both contributions beyond the self.
